LOVE YOUR HEART!! We are so excited to welcome February with a celebration of heart healthy food! Each Wednesday in February, Super Healthy Kids, along with 3 other healthy eating bloggers are teaming up to bring you our favorite heart healthy recipes. In order for it to be an official event, we are of course having link-ups and giveaways! The other bloggers are Cara (from Cara’s Cravings), Nicole (from Prevention RD), and Lauren (from Healthy Food for Living).
To kick this event off, we are beginning with breakfast! The must see- heart healthy recipes include:
- Cara’s Strawberry Avocado Smoothie
- Lauren’s Winter Blueberry Almond Baked Oatmeal
- Nicole’s Maple Almond and Flaxseed Waffles
- Our Fruit and Yogurt Parfait!
Visit them all, but stop off at Cara’s to enter to link up your heart healthy breakfast and enter the giveaway!! (Which includes Amy’s smoothie book!)
Our heart healthy recipe with whole grains and berries are these delicious fruit and yogurt parfaits! Although, I think parfaits are amazing, sometimes they are a bit too much food for my 3 and 1 year old. These little parfait bites are the perfect size for a little tummy. They also have a variety of textures – crunchy shell and granola, smooth yogurt, soft fruit. It is great to expose your children to a variety of flavors and textures to help expand their palate.
These were really easy to make. I whipped up a batch in less than 15 minutes!
I used Wonton Wrappers. I just pressed them into a mini muffin tin and baked at 375 for about 8 minutes until they started to turn golden.
Then I filled each cup with:
- Yogurt – I used Strawberry-Honey flavored Greek yogurt
- Granola – Just a small sprinkling
- Fruit – I diced kiwi, blueberries, and strawberries
My kids liked breaking off the edges and dipping it in the yogurt. If you have extra, you can put them in a tupperware, and store in the fridge for the next morning. The shell softens up and it is almost like eating a pastry!

I absolutely love this site and all of the recipes and healthy tips for kids. I often incorporate the snack and lunch ideas into my Preschool menu plans. This month, we are learning about keeping our hearts healthy, and having fun doing it. I definitely linked back to this page on a recent blog so parents have a place to go for heart healthy recipes! Thanks!!
