Party Food: Fruit Sushi

Whether you are having your own little summer party with an Asian Flare, or just want to make something fun for an afternoon snack, this fruit sushi can fit the bill.  I saw this idea in our June issue of our church’s children’s magazine!  The only problem they had was they didn’t have pictures!  As soon as I read it, I decided it would be perfect for letter-S week!

We’ve got two ideas here:

Cantaloupe Sushi

  • Cut chunks of cantaloupe
  • Cucumber: Use vegetable peeler to peel long thin slices
  • Wrap cucumber slices around cantaloupe and secure with toothpick.
  • Sprinkle with coconut (their ideas was sprinkles, but I didn’t have any)

Banana Sushi

  • Slice bananas into chunks
  • Use fruit leather (the kind you find in the produce section, where they don’t add any sugar, or make your own)
  • Wrap fruit leather around bananaalflafa sushi
  • Sprinkle with coconut

  • If you are looking to get organized this summer, my sister just finished a workbook to get organized in 20 days!  It’s awesome!

Question of the Day: Do you make your own fruit leather? Is it worth the effort, do your kids go without, or do you buy it?

These look fun to make. I don’t let my kids eat it since it’s bad for them and their teeth. They beg me but only once or twice a year do I give in. I can’t wait to see your sister’s blog, thanks for the tip.

my kids read about this in the magazine too and were so excited to try it! Yes, we make our own fruit leather.. got a dehydrator for lots of stuff and I need to find more recipes for fruit leather though I think just pureeing anything would work. :)

I need some good fruit leather recipes. My kids think it’s a reward whenever I buy them one at the grocery store. But I’d really like some good, yummy recipes on this. The ones we’ve made in the past haven’t tasted very good, in my opinion. Any ideas?
