Raisin Butter

PA190200 Although this may look nasty, according to my kids, it was actually delicious!   There was no raisin-y flavor to it. It tasted almost like orange jam.  But unlike regular jam, no refined sugars!  Brilliant! It made a perfect companion to some peanut butter on a peanut butter sandwich.  I ate it on a breakfast flat, but since my kids refused, they got it on their sandwiches I sent with lunch.

The only ingredients were:

  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup dates
  • 3/4 cup orange juice.

I soaked the dried fruit in the OJ overnight, and then threw it in a blender this morning.

I still don’t have my new laptop! It doesn’t even look like its shipped yet.  Hopefully it will go out today and I can have it before the weekend.

Come back tomorrow for a SUPER AWESOME giveaway!  It rhymes with book-dare. Can you guess what it is?

This looks and sounds awesome!! We don’t normally have orange juice on hand, but I think I will make the sacrifice to purchase some Simply Orange for this recipe!! Can it be pressure canned???

  2. Amy says:

I don’t see why it couldn’t! What a great idea to have some on hand anytime!

  3. Heather says:

Amy, Did you soak it overnight in the frig?

  4. Amy says:

Yes Heather, all night, in the fridge.

Sounds great! Since you mentioned jam, I’m wondering if you could tell me if there is any reason not to use Polaner All Fruit? I think it is just fruit, but I have noticed that they don’t sell it at Whole Foods. I haven’t looked at the label, just wondering if you know… I’m going to try this recipe, thanks.

What a great idea! To be honest, I don’t know that my son will touch raisin butter with a 10′ pole, but my daughter and I will likely love this!

    Cookware! I want it!

Do I win for guessing it?

How many days can it be stored?

  11. Amy says:

I usually buy Smuckers Simply fruit (same thing I’m sure). I haven’t noticed the Polaner variety. Maybe they just aren’t marketing themselves to all stores yet. My only problem with products like that is that they are expensive. I prefer to make my own to save on costs.

Antibody, I’m not sure how long it can be stored. I’ve only made small amounts at a time!

I am also wondering how long this can be stored in the fridge. What if I soaked the raisins and dates for more than a day? I put it in the fridge to soak and then was not able to blend it until days later. Is it still good? My husband just tasted it and said it tasted good. I hope it’s still good considering I soaked it for so long.
