The Homemade Applesauce

Growing up, we never ate applesauce from the grocery store. Did they even have it back then?  All I know is, we’d get boxes of apples every fall, run them through some sort of Oster applesauce maker thingy, and seal the finished applesauce in mason jars.  When I left for college and started having store bought, or cafeteria applesauce, I couldn’t believe how runny it was!  I thought I was being served baby food.  The store bought version has never compared with me to the homemade kind.

Thus enters, Homemade applesauce.  Its really as easy as you would think it is.

I took 3 apples.

Peeled, sliced and chopped them.

P9260163

Poured 1/4 cup water with 1/2 tsp cinnamon over the top.

P9260166

Microwaved on high for 5-6 minutes.

P9260168

Poured the chunks of apples into the blender. .. I’ve tried mashing and whipping, and it never gave the consistency of applesauce to me.  The blender option gave the best applesauce, in my opinion.

And then eat! This is super delicious!!

A very similar dish, I call Apple Dessert, I posted here.

Today my son turns 11! I can’t believe it.  I’m going to surprise him and pick him up from school to take him to lunch. We haven’t had any quality time (just he and I) forever! He’s one of those kids that is so well behaved, does his own thing quietly, and as a consequence he gets neglected by me.  The other two kids are high maintenance, and demand a lot more attention.
