Trail Mix
Wednesday: Proteins, legumes, nuts, seeds
We are still on vacation (don’t worry, I’m not actually writing these posts on vacation). I will post about our fun hiking excursions for Friday’s exercise day.
But a perfect hiking snack is trail mix!! Make your own though! Its not hard, it so much cheaper, and doesn’t include things like M&M’s and too much salt. Here are some ideas for making your own with things we like in ours.
Almonds- cashews
- shelled pistachio’s
- peanuts
- dried cranberries (without added sugar)
- Raisins
- Dried pineapples
- Dried apple chips
- Soy nuts
- granola
- pumpkin seeds
- sunflower seeds
- Dried apricots
- Dates
- Cheerios
- pretzels
- Mini- Chocolate chips
- Coconut
Anything I forgot? We pack the mix into snack size baggies. Each kid carries their own Hydration packs , which are completely adorable themselves, with trial mix and fruit leather tucked inside.
I will post winners to the Sinupret giveaway later tonight when I will be back in town.

Where do you find dried cranberries without added sugar? I can’t find them anywhere! And, do you use raw nuts, salted nuts or basically what kind? Just curious. Thanks for your blog.

How did you like the snow in warm St. George today? What the heck?! Anyway– I have been meaning to ask a question about raisins and things like it. I read once that raisins are one of the number one things that dentists dislike. They are filled with so much sticky sugar that they stick to your teeth and so forth and that they were just as bad as candy. I was wondering if you had a point of view on that.

Sara K, the only place I’ve been able to find them (unsweetened craisins) is in the bulk bins of the whole foods stores. As for nuts (I buy half and half… my husband prefers salted, but he doesn’t notice when I mix raw in with it)
Mary Kathryn :
ARGHHH! We left right in time. The drive home was pretty scary though, I hate driving in snowy conditions. However, my husband was behind the wheel so that was good.
As for raisins. I did a post about that here. http://blog.superhealthykids.com/?p=223
And since they are in the middle group, and we love them, and we brush our teeth, we still eat them (a lot)
