OATMEAL RECIPES!

During the big Quaker weekend, the bloggers were allowed to come up with a unique oatmeal recipe to be included in a new cookbook, and get an all expense paid trip to the Oatmeal Festival in Colorado. I didn’t get chosen, but here are the entries.

I feel like I read (on your site if my memory is good) that all oatmeal is created equal and that there is no reason we have to eat steel cut vs. whole oats vs. quick oats. Is this true? I have believed for along time that steel cut were far superior.

Mizfit; you should have submitted one! I bet you would have come up with something good.
Lindsay, you did read that here.

While the Quaker nutritionist told us per weight, steel cut, rolled, quick, and instant 1 gram of steel cut had the same nutrients, fiber, etc. as 1 gram of every other type of rolled oats. However, the public consensus was the steel cut was more filling, and thus may stay in your blood stream longer, making them a better choice. But if you were talking vitamins, fiber, protein, etc. they are all the same.
Thanks

thanks for the comment–trying to get to or beyond 500 as then I donate 100 and it’s matched by the shelter (200!) and MATCHED by a few of my readers as well…so every little bit helps.

thx!!

Oh – very interesting about the steel cut vs every other type of oatmeal! I’ve always read that steel cut was better (fiber-wise). I prefer quick oats myself, so this is good news to me!

New blogs to check out now! (As if I need anymore great blogs to read…)
