Oatmealpalooza
An oatmeal bar with two huge things of oatmeal. Then tons of toppings. Fruit, yogurt, cinnamon, peanut butter, raisins, brown sugar, nuts, whatever you want. I chose a new instant oatmeal that was pumpkin flavor, “available for a limited time at Walmart”. Stock up, it was fabulous.
The oatmeal bar is a great idea to try with your kids. Let them dish up as much as they want, and add the toppings.
Here is some interesting news;
- new product; oatmeal pancake mix, coming in January. Sounds yummy!
- MYTH: steel cut or old fashioned is more nutritious. This is a total myth. Steel cut, old fashioned, quick and instant all have the same amount of fiber and vitamins! Interesting.
- Great idea; Blend oats in blender to make into flour. Store in a canister next to your flour to use for replacements or add to baked goods.
- Quaker is 131 years old!
- Oatmeal cookies are the number one non-cereal usage for oats.
- Average cost is twenty two cents per serving.

Funny you should ask Liz, because Dr. Oz has helped spread the myth. You can’t just look at the label and know. Gram for gram it’s the same, but steel cut is “heavier” so it looks like more nutrients… you know what I mean.

I definitely think that steel cut oats are more filling, and to me seem to keep me satisfied longer. Probably has something to do with exposed surface area. Technically they’re nutritionally identical, just like whole fruits and vegetables vs. pureed – one is just more satisfying.

That seemed to be the consensus. That Steel cut oats were more filling for people. The more you have to “break it down” on your own, the more it stays in your blood stream.

Of course steel cut/regular oats are not more nutritious than instant–the only difference is how much the oat is cut and processed. I could be wrong, but I believe the difference is that steel cut and regular oats have more fiber than instant. Everyone needs more fiber.

Seriously??? Steel cut is not as healthy as instant? That is weird. I wonder what Dr. Oz has to say about that one.
And I’m running to walmart TODAY to get pumpkin oatmeal… I think I could be addicted to that one. And it’s fun seeing your face! You look like you are all having a wonderful time!
