Peanut Butter Delight Face Off
This experiment landed the comment from a picky 5 year old neighbor, “Maybe your mom could give my mom the recipe!”
We had 10 kids playing at our house on Saturday. What a great opportunity for a taste test, I thought. I had made Peanut Butter Balls when I first started this blog, and we loved them. Then Emily shared a different recipe with me that included dried nuts and dried fruit. I thought, “Why not try them both and see which the kids like better!” It was a complete tie. Every single child liked both recipes equally, so I’ll upload both of them. Here’s both recipes.
I did add ground flax to the original recipe, inspired by the recipe from Emily. My ground flax tip is to buy the flax seeds in bulk. It not only is cheaper, but will last longer in your fridge. As soon as you grind the seeds, they begin to go bad. I only grind as much as we need at a time. I don’t bother with a grinder either. It grinds up just fine in a regular blender.

It’s been brought to my attention that my good friend Eliece tried to grind her flax seeds in a blender, and it just threw the seeds everywhere without grinding. Truthfully, I used my smoothie mixer (much like the magic bullet), so It may not work in a regular blender) However, Costco carries ground flax that has a longer shelf life because they do not use heat in their grinding process. Worth a try.

Sound like a great recipe. When my kids were little we made something similar, and called it “Edible Play-Dough.” We mixed equal parts peanut butter, honey, and powdered milk. It had a candy-like consistency that kids could mold, decorate, and then eat. They could make little shapes, and decorate them with raisins or choc. chips. Or make into balls and roll in mini-chocolate chips. Your recipe with the oats sounds more nourishing, though. (Make sure the kids don’t have peanut allergies, and avoid honey for infants.)

You had 10 kids playing at your house?? And you FED them? You are a nice mom. I start to panic when there are 6 neighborhood kids running all around our house!

My recipe is a little different from this (not as healthy!) but my family gobbles them up. We’ll have to give these a try.

The flax at Costco is great. SO nice not to have to worry about fussy storage. We put it in everything, yogurt (homemade of course)bread, muffins, you name it. Give it a try!

I grind my flax seeds in a small coffee grinder that I bought at Target just for that purpose. I was told not to put them in my wheat grinder because of the oil. The mini grinder works great – we even chop our whole almonds in there too for our granola.
