Kids Lunch Box Cards

PhotobucketBack to pencils, back to books, back to cereal boys dirty looks. I can’t believe summer is over for us already!  No more grazing and snacking all day. My kids actually have to eat the meal called LUNCH!  This is a tough one considering cereal boy once traded his entire sandwich for one M&M!!  The best method I have found is to let them pack their lunch themselves with certain boundaries, then they are more likely to eat what they have chosen.   This prior post lists what I allow them in their lunches.

To make their lunch extra special however, and add that finishing touch, it’s fun to include a nice card or note from you so your kids can know you are thinking of them.  So, when Gina Flanagan, creator of Kids Lunch Box Cards, sent me some of her cards to put in your kids lunches, I couldn’t wait!  I could never be as creative and talented as Gina!  She has cards with riddles, funny facts, loony laws, gross but true cards, and mystical fairy cards.  I wanted to wait till school started to let my kids see them, but the ’Gross, but true’ are completely cereal boys style of humor.  I wanted to show him one. I chose; “A chicken who just lost its head can run the length of a football field before dropping dead!” But that is the ONLY one I let him see. He thought it was hilarious.  I’m waiting to slide them into his backpack or lunch bag with a nice, “Love mom” on the back!

Gina’s team over at Kids Lunch Box Cards has graciously offered one reader from this blog to win a set of cards.  Even if your kids aren’t in school yet, or you home school, they are fun to send when your kids go overnight, in their coat pockets, under their pillows or whatever!!   To enter, leave a comment with one healthy food you send in your kids lunch (or give them for lunch) that you can guarantee they will eat and not trade!  For my kids it’s pistachio’s!  They love them like they love dessert!  You can enter the contest until Thursday night at 5pm.  Good luck!  Don’t wait to see if you win… Go buy some cards today!

His whole lunch for ONE M&M? Gotta work on those entrepreneurial skills…

Our healthy lunch food is grapes. But my kids don’t know about trading yet, so we’ll see.

Taco man would LOVE some of those cards!! He and Cereal boy are two of a kind! The only thing that I can be sure my kids won’t trade is yogurt. They love it!

Cool cards! My kids love frozen grapes. They eat them like candy and as a bonus, they keep the rest of the lunch cool.

For my kids, it’s apples. They would eat 3 a day if I let them.

We’re hot on blueberries right now but a good winter standby is whole wheat muffins (when I take the time to make them!)

I’m always struggling to get my daughter to eat healthy! I think the healthiest thing in her lunch box is the PB&J Sandwich :-/ I always use wholewheat bread, and the peanut butter is her protein (although I would rather her have organic natural pb, but she pulls a face at it) and I use only a little bit of jelly. She won’t eat fruit if it’s not super cold from the fridge so I give her that when she gets home as an after school snack! The cards sound like a lot of fun, I always right my daughter a note on her paper napkin, these would be extra nice to add in her lunchbox.

My daughter will eat berries of any kind! I have been getting blackberries and raspberries lately, she eats ‘em right up. Whole wheat muffins are a good idea, thanks!

Last year I started sending veggies and dip and a container of fruit. The best thing we loved though was a sandwich pocket. We could stuff a lot of things in there and she loved it.
She is a good eater we dont have to worry . The only thing she doesnt eat if you pack it is a banana not sure why but they always come home.

It used to be sauteed mushrooms, go figure. Now that she’s six, it’s hard boiled eggs with a bit of salt on the side.

My son does trade and share the healthy foods that I send but the one thing he won’t trade is the steamed broccoli that he requests as a frequent addition to his lunches.
